Parents:

Attention Parents and Students the Stride is back.

The Washougal Schools Foundation Student Stride for Education will be May 18, 2013 at Fishback Stadium.  Please read the flyer.

Attention: Student Testing

The State Assessments (Measurement of Student Progress --- MSP) for all grades will begin the first full week of May. Chances are we will be testing every Monday through Thursday of every week up to June 7, 2013.  Every grade will be taking a Reading and Math test on-line, 8th grade and additional test in Science on line and the 7th grade two writing tests as a paper and pencil opportunity (April 30th and May 7th).

Attached is the testing schedule for the month of May.  When you read the schedule, it is broken down by grade and subject being tested.  Each grade has more than one date to test a specific subject, since they are all on-line and we only have two (2) major labs and one parital lab.  If you have questions please call the office.  Schedule

Fund raising opportunities:  Fireworks Photography

DO NOT forget our box top fund raiser.  Bring to the main office.  We have collected quite a few in the past.

Also register or establish a new SAFEWAY reward card and assign to JMS.  This is one more way to help JMS fund raising efforts.

Many people will also find they need to click renew on the home page under Safeway to continue their escrip contributions. Renewal needs to be done this year by Nov. 1st.

Reminders:

Energy Drinks

We have a policy found in our Student /Parent Handbook to not allow energy drinks on campus.  Many of the drinks contain a very large dose of caffine and stimulants to get the solution into the blood stream fast.  It has come to our attention that some drinks contain from 6 to 10% alcohol too.  Our concern is naturally the alcohol choice, but more importantly the stimulants in the drinks.  None of us know how our students react to these stimulants during the day and before or after a performance or activity.  They should never be shared with anyone for the same reasons.  Read more about our findings in the handbook and help us protect our students health.

Jemtegaard Highly Capable Program

The Highly Capable Program staff wishes to support and encourage parents as they endeavor to provide in environment in which their child/children can flourish and succeed.  Evening meetings are often difficult to attend.  If you are interested in receiving periodic emails containing resources, articles and research, please contact Kathy Sloop at 954-3127 or kathy.sloop@washougal.k12.wa.us .

JMS going 'GREEN'

Jemtegaard is going "GREEN" as much as possible.  We have the beginnings of a GREEN TEAM, following the Washington Green Schools program.  We had the first district wide meeting and we are preparing for a JMS Energy Efficiency Assessment.  We will be looking at other areas as well, as we try and conserve the environment and reduce costs school wide.  Last month's newsletter was the first web version of our parent newsletter.  We will encourage all families to read about the happenings at JMS on this web page.  If this is going to be difficult, please give us a call.
