High school college credit
COLLEGE CREDIT EARNED IN HIGH SCHOOL
The following programs allow students to earn college credit while in high school. Criteria for college credit varies with each program. Specific credit information is available by contacting the student's counselor.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Students enrolled in advanced placement courses complete college-level work and prepare for nationally-scored exams. Many colleges honor Advanced Placement exam scores by granting credit when students enroll. Washougal High School offers the following Advanced Placement (AP) classes:
Calculus, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, Physics, Statistics, Studio Art, and U.S. History.
RUNNING START
Under this legislation, qualified eleventh and twelfth grade students attend classes at a community or technical college to earn college and high school credits simultaneously. The college grades/credits will be included in the student's high school records and transcripts. Tuition is fully funded under the Running Start Program. Students are responsible for purchasing books and paying lab or miscellaneous fees, and for providing their own transportation.
In order to participate in the program, a student must be a junior or senior. The student must also take the Running Start Eligibility Test and earn college level placement scores on the assessment in order to be eligible. For specific information and to register for the test, go to this site http://www.clark.edu/academics/programs/running_start/
TECH-PREP ARTICULATION
Tech Prep articulation agreements allow students who complete vocational-technical programs in high school to enter community and technical college programs with advanced status. Washougal High School has numerous articulation agreements with Clark Community College. Courses for which tech-prep credit is available will be noted in the course description section of the course book. (There is a one-time fee to post these credits on a college transcript.)
