Congratulations to Cheryl MacIntyre, who was recognized earlier this week by the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce as their Teacher of the Year from Washougal!  Cheryl works as our district math coach, supporting improvements in instructional practices and helping develop rigorous math instruction.  She’s a passionate advocate for standards based grading and supports teachers as they work to ensure every student not only understands math routines, but the underlying concepts and deeper understanding that allow students to be successful in higher level math and engineering courses.

Cheryl uses her role as a coach and years of experience as a teacher to advocate for modern mathematical instruction, and offers side-by-side coaching, ongoing professional development and support to other teachers to help improve outcomes for all students.  Cheryl’s work has transformed the culture of math instruction in Washougal, with a focus on connecting student learning to future careers, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math professions. Her use of data has been recognized by school leadership, and her consistent, supportive approach to improving instruction has been instrumental in setting Washougal students up for success.
