In Schools –
Our Students Rising– Our students just keep “Rising to the occasion” and demonstrating their excellent character, work ethic, care for others, and kindness. Check out these examples:
Emily Wade, Washougal High School Freshman and member of the Wild Panther Book Club, won Best Fiction Review for the West Coast for Grades 9-12 for a review she wrote from the WHS Rainbow Library of books.
The Rainbow Library is a collection of texts that positively represent LGBTQ+ characters and historical figures. WHS Librarian Hillary Marshall received the grant to attain the books and encouraged Wade to write and submit her award-winning review. Wade and other winners were recognized at the virtual Washington Rainbow Readers Summit.
Members of the FIRST Team Mean Machine 2471 have persevered through virtual robotics competitions and have maintained forward motion and drive with the tasks at hand and for planning off-season activities. These students from Washougal, Camas and Hockinson High Schools have adjusted to the ever-changing restrictions with a level of maturity, grace, and compassion for others that rivals the best. With the guidance of talented and dedicated mentors and the support of their school districts, these students have spent many hours making things happen, growing, learning, and collaborating, all while maintaining grades and being upstanding students in their schools.
Please congratulate FIRST Team Mean Machine 2471 on the awards below in addition to the District Chairman’s Award presented a couple of weeks ago.

Here is the link to the story that highlights our students, Unite! and WACA. Yay for helping “grow” informed and engaged future citizens!
In the Community –
CTE Presents at Rotary- Margaret Rice was the star of this week’s Camas/Washougal Rotary presenting for Youth Empowerment Month. She talked about the excellent work of the CTE program and had the audience “leaning in” to your work of dual credit, career pathways, 21st century learning skills, engaging hands-on lessons, EarthGen recycling program at WHS, our “Shoug Shack” Food Truck…and of course the innovations in our culinary program. Here is a pic from Cape Horn-Skye from today. The fresh Chef-Made meal that is being enjoyed (by Ellowyn Christensen from Mrs. Yung’s class) is BBQ Chicken Pizza and Broccoli. YUM!!
