In Schools –

CRGE 1st Grade Team Makes the News: Clark County Talk published a story submitted by our own Rene’ Carroll, highlighting the excellent work of the CRGE 1st grade team (Sydney Termini, Allison McGranahan, Taryn Tedford).  Although this story was only able to highlight a few of our excellent teachers, I know that this story could have been written about any one of you.  You are all modelling perseverance, grit, and positivity for our students/families.  Thank you all for continuing to “stay strong” and student-centered as our remote learning model continues.

In the Community –

Camas-Washougal Community Chest Runs Annual Donation Campaign– Both the Camas superintendent and myself sit on the board of the Community Chest and I must tell you that I am consistently impressed with how this group helps local charities do more and reach more community members.  In our district, we receive a grant to fund the “Principal’s Checkbook”.  This fund allows our principals to purchase items such as school supplies, school clothing, and sports equipment for students who lack resources.   I would encourage you to consider donating to this worthy cause.  Here is the link to their website, if you would like to learn more:

In the District Office –

K-8 Washougal Learning Academy Sees Success:  Our WLA, led by Jason Foster, has been very successful and continues to offer a family-friendly and flexible learning option for our students and families.  Our staff of teachers (Rebecca Woodings, Kynnedy Mosely, Sara Genova) are currently working with students on the Monthly Review of Progress.  During these reviews, I am happy to report that our students are able to clearly articulate the essential learning standards, show evidence of their progress toward these standards, and plan for their future learning.  I love the commitment to student agency and active participation in the learning process.  Great job, Team!

Inspiration this week The inspiration of week goes to WSD senior, Amara Farah.  She was recently awarded the Washington State 2020 Prevention Award of Excellence In Youth Leadership. Amara has been engaged in prevention efforts in her volunteer work with Unite! Washougal for nearly 7 years.  Congratulations, Amara!! Thank you Unite! for your wonderful support of our students and our community!
