Washougal School District/Community Education Preschools are located at each Washougal School District Elementary School – Cape Horn-Skye, Columbia River Gorge, Gause, and Hathaway.

Curriculum supports “whole child” instruction with purposeful play, structured activities and hands-on teaching of math, science, literacy, physical education, creative arts, music, and social/emotional skills. Highly qualified teachers provide a depth of experience and commitment to “kindergarten readiness” in a safe and nurturing environment that recognizes each student’s unique abilities. (Students must be fully potty-trained to attend preschool.)

  • Morning Preschool classes serve 3-year-olds and young 4-year-olds. Classes are 2.5 hours on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Class times vary based on the school location. Busing is available to school within the school boundary.
  • Afternoon Pre-K classes serve 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds that will be attending kindergarten the following school year. Classes are 3 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.   Right At School* Child Care

The WSD SPACE program, which previously provided before and after school care, closed as of the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Starting in the 2021-22 school year, we are partnering with Right at School to offer before and after school childcare and enrichment opportunities. In addition, Right at School offers full day options on non-attendance days other than holidays. Right at School has a developed curriculum that includes academics, social, and emotional learning.

The program will also provide time for students to work on homework, allowing families to focus on family time at the end of the day.

Right at School* will be housed on the Columbia River Gorge Elementary School and Jemtegaard Middle School campus.

We anticipate that this change will:

  • Support students and families in grades K-5 with childcare
  • Right at School will be a licensed Child Care Center
  • If there is enough interest, Right at School may expand the program to include 6th grade students
  • Busing may be available for students who attend other K-8 schools
  • Support current SPACE staff with priorities in the new positions at Right at School
  • Provide lower cost options for families who qualify for Free and Reduced price meals, discounts for families with multiple students attending, and scholarships for those with a financial need.

If you are interested in this program, please visit the Right at School website.

* Right At School is not a Washougal School District program, and operates independently.  The program is licensed for students age 5 and up.  Parents must register with Right At School using the information on their website to enroll in this opportunity.
