Current Happenings at Jemtegaard
Garbage Art
Have you noticed the newly painted trash and recycling bins around JMS? All of these cans were painted by 8th graders in Garbage Art flex class taught by Ms. Iversen, JMS Art teacher, and Ms. Jacoby, JMS 8th grade science teacher. Each can has a message reminding students, staff and visitors to think about what they’re throwing away and reminding them to reduce, reuse and recycle! Our great Boosters funded this environmentally minded project. Thank you Boosters and great job 8th grade garbage artists!
BOX TOPS for EDUCATION
Jemtegaard students and parents make your school a cut above. Cut out and clip all box tops you can find and bring them to school. The boxes are in the office labled 6th, 7th and 8th grade. This is a easy fund raiser for all of us.

JMS going 'GREEN'
Jemtegaard is going "GREEN" as much as possible. We have the beginnings of a GREEN TEAM, following the Washington Green Schools program. We had the first district wide meeting and we are preparing for a JMS Energy Efficiency Assessment. We will be looking at other areas as well, as we try and conserve the environment and reduce costs school wide. Last month's newsletter was the first web version of our parent newsletter. We will encourage all families to read about the happenings at JMS on this web page. If this is going to be difficult, please give us a call.
H1N1 virus (Swine Flu)
Much has be said about the latest flu virus in our country. Though we all know about flu symptoms and have had the flu occasionally in our lives, this strain is different. We are encouraging the following everyday practices here at school. We encourage you to practice them at home as well.
Things You Can Do to Prevent the Flu
• Wash your hands: wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing.
Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
• Cover your cough: cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.
• Flu shots: get your family vaccinated for both seasonal flu and H1N1 flu (when vaccines are available).
Winter Sports
