Exploratory Department Information

Many parents ask what is the difference between an exploratory and elective class.  An exploratory class is for students to 'explore' an area they may not have tried before.  An elective is a specific class they have chosen.  Jemtegaard staff believe students should be given the opportunity to explore some of the various areas so students have an opportunity to see if that area is one of interest to them or that they may find out they have some great skills in. This can often help them determine what elective/s in high school they would like to take.

It is also our expectation at Jemtegaard that an exploratory class be treated no different than any other class such as math or writing.  As a result, if a student misses a day of school, they are expected to be responsible and make up what they missed in a timely manner just as they would for math/science/reading etc. As these are performance based classes often times, if you have any questions or concerns regarding how your child can make up something they missed, please do not hesitate to contact the teacher.
