Board of Directors announces plan to fill Board member vacancies

Long-time board members Dr. Orlan Gessford and Tom Huffman will retire from the Board of Directors effective January 31, 2011. The Board of Directors is beginning the process for filling these positions. Board member vacancies will be filled in accordance with Board Policy 1115, Board Member Vacancies and Policy #1110, Board Member Election. Please click the links to view these policies.

Qualified applicant requirements

Qualified applicants must be United States citizens who are registered to vote and who reside in the appropriate director district within Washougal School District. Dr. Orlan Gessford represents Director District #1, and Tom Huffman represents Director District #4. Prior to being considered as a candidate for either position, the District will confirm all of the qualifications including a confirmation that the applicant’s resident address is within the appropriate Director District boundaries.

NOTE: The board has amended the policy governing the eligibility, and removed the section saying that spouses of employees and immediate family members of employees of the district are precluded from serving on the Board. The deadline to apply has been extended to January 21st.

Term of service

Candidates appointed to fill the position for Director District #1 and Director District #4 will serve the terms of the vacated positions through December 2011. To continue in these positions, the appointees will need to file for the next school district election scheduled in November 2011, at which time the appointees must be elected to serve the next term beginning January 2012 through December 2015.
