CLASS OF 2008 AND BEYOND REQUIRED CERTIFICATE OF MASTERY
The Certificate of Mastery is earned when students meet state required standards on the 10th grade WASL in reading, writing, and math (class of 2010 also needs science). Students will have five opportunities to retake the exam after participating in targeted help. Some students will also be qualified for alternative WASL accommodations. Contact the school counseling office for more information on graduation requirements.
SENIOR PROJECT
The Senior Project is a graduation requirement, which allows each senior the opportunity to demonstrate twelve years of educational experience to the community. The components of the Senior Project consist of the following:
1. The Research Paper- Must meet minimum standards and be resubmitted until standard is met.
2. The Project Activity (Evidence)- 15 hours of independent work outside of the school day and a mentor required.
3. The Formal Presentation or Oral Boards in June.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PORTFOLIO (PDP) (.25 credit second semester of each year)
A Personal Development Portfolio is a district requirement that is completed through Advisory and is worth 1.0 credit towards graduation. Students begin creating their PDP in the 9th grade during Advisory, and they build upon their freshman work each year until they have a portfolio of their high school years. This portfolio includes their 5-Year-Plan, best works, accomplishments, and samples of career exploration data. At the conclusion of the student's senior year, he/she has a completed a portfolio that summarizes his/her personal growth throughout high school.
CLASS STANDING TOWARDS GRADUATION
Students are placed in a grade level based on when they entered 9th grade. It should be noted that in order to graduate in four years, they must make satisfactory progress each year towards earning credits towards graduation. In most cases, the following is a guideline to judge whether a student is making adequate progress.
9th Grade- 4.25-6.25 credits earned by the end of the school year
10th Grade- 10.5-12.5 credits earned by the end of the school year
11th Grade- 16.75-18.75 credits earned by the end of the school year
Anyone earning fewer than 14 credits at the close of the junior year should plan on a fifth year to finish high school.
12th grade- 22 credits earned by the end of the school year
Students with credits between 14.5-16.5 must have a realistic plan for credit recovery on file with the counselor before scheduling senior level classes including CWP and Senior English.
