About The Library
About The Library
Library Peeps:
Ms. Dillon, Teacher-Librarian
Instruction is our game:
Our goal is to direct you to the best electronic and print resources for class research assignments. We are available to help interpret assignment directions, assist you in narrowing and focusing research topics, designing search strategies, and providing MLA citation support. We also like to recommend good books and buy things for the library that students and teachers request. Random questions are welcome, too!
Hours
Use the library for chillin', studyin', or hangin' out in the stacks from 7:30 a.m - 4 p.m. daily. Passes are required to use the library during class. Make sure your reason is legit - we have avoidance radar!
Here's your game:
Please take care of your library's resources, while also respecting other individuals using the library. Breaching the rules of the game may cause Mrs. Stanton to call a time out - and she whistles with mucho gusto and decibels. Please do not use cell phones, iPods, etc. during class instruction time.
I'm starving!
While the library is open at lunch, groceries are not allowed except for beverages in closed containers, which library staff would appreciate your removing when you leave. If you really want to eat legally in the library, joining Readers Club is a start. Students who attend our meetings are often greeted with cocoa and treats! Dude, where's my permission slip?
Get a sticker on your ASB card as your license to use the Internet at school by turning in a signed permission form. If you're old enough to vote, you're old enough to sign your own form.
Help! I've fallen and I can't login
In lowercase letters, type your first name_last name and then enter your password (the default is panthers until you change it). If you still can't log in, check with library staff. Accounts may be disabled for inappropriate use, including desktop backgrounds that are deemed inappropriate by two women over 40!
I hit Print and Nothing Happened
Continuing to click print won't make your paper magically appear on the library printer if your computer profile has a different printer specified. Get in the habit of selecting the Library_4250 or Library_2500c for color. Print green by printing selectively and collecting everything you roll off.
Photocopies
Mrs. Stanton saved an ancient and temperamental copy machine from the landfill. See her for help. Copies are 5 cents per page.
Running with Scissors
While we don't encourage the above, you may use our scissors, staplers, glue, markers, tape, paper, etc.required for your projects in the student workroom. Please clean up after yourself.
Borrowing Stuff
Borrowing Stuff
Check it out!
Bring a valid WHS ID card to borrow up to 5 items. Keep in mind reference and reserved materials do not leave the library. You also need to be packing a public library card from FVRL for research project database instruction and placing holds on books, so watch for Library Card Sign Up Day.
21 days makes a habit
All circulating books may be borrowed for 3 weeks and may be renewed by stopping at the circulation desk unless the item is on hold for another patron.
Hold on!
If the book you want is checked out to another person, you may request a hold at the Circulation Desk. The next time the book is checked in, the library will notify you that it is ready for you to pick up.
My book is late
Overdue notices are delivered at midterms and before the end of each semester. Students with overdue books at the end of each semester will be fined and borrowing privileges will be suspended until the material is returned to the library or paid for in the ASB office. Seniors with outstanding fines will not receive a diploma or transcripts.
Down the chute
There is a book return slot at the Circulation Desk.

Electronic Library Catalog
Everything we own is listed in our online catalog, Alexandria. Use one of the iMacs to search by title, author, subject or keyword.
e-books
Electronic books are the digital equivalent of a printed book and can be accessed by an unlimited number of users from any school or home computer. See library staff for password info.
Electronic Databases
Databases are digital "filing cabinets" in which printed information from books, magazines, newspapers, etc. has been collected and turned into an electronic format that can be read online, printed, e-mailed, etc.by users who may search for and locate documents related to certain topics. Most databases charge people to use their collection of documents. The WHS Lbirary currently pays for you to access ProQuest and Britannica Online.
Too many Internet hits?
If you trust every fourth grader who adds content to wikipedia or are drowning in millions of returned hits, you are not using Google or the Internet effectively. Ask us for help refining keyword searches.
