Dear WSD families and staff,
Thank you for your patience and grace while we weather the winter storm that caused today’s snow day. District maintenance crews have used the time today to ensure that sidewalks and parking lots around the district are passable and safe for students when school resumes. Both Clark and Skamania County have been busy plowing roads in higher elevations, and much of the compacted ice has been removed from the hardest hit areas. Some areas of our district still have more than 14” of accumulated snow.
We are cautiously optimistic that school will resume tomorrow (Tuesday February 12). District transportation staff will be out and driving roads to ensure buses will be able to make it to all of our students. The transportation staff will recommend some routes for snow routes, but even with these restrictions, buses will still be traveling roads up around 1,000 feet above sea level to reach all parts of our district.
We do not take the decision to delay or cancel school lightly, and recognize the impact it has on families and our employees when we have to make these difficult calls. Please know that the safety of all of our students and staff is always at the forefront as we evaluate actual road conditions and make this decision.
Please keep your phone nearby in the event we have a delay or closure, and we hope to see you tomorrow!
