The first week of May is teacher appreciation week, and our students, families and staff are sending “shout outs” to our amazing educators.

They wanted to tell why Ms. Yang is so great. “She is nice.” “She listens and helps with problems that you might have.” “She loves anime.” “She is caring.” “Like if you need help, she will come right to you.” “She always says hi no matter where you might see her.” “In art class, she does not judge you. She encourages us to create great art and displays it in the halls or in a contest or at the district office.” “She really cares about everyone and especially animals. She just cares a lot.” I have to agree with them all. Ms. Yang has a good heart in all she does and cares greatly about everyone. Thank you Alice for being you.

Canyon Creek Middle School Jason Barnes Katherine Baxter I thoroughly enjoy working with Jason. Some people teach content they are directed to, but Jason goes above and beyond to teach content that make students think and debate. He welcomes all ideas/opinions in class discussions. I hear students talking about what they did and learned in his class. I want him to know that his teaching goes beyond the classroom. As a colleague, he is fun to work with. When I am having a hard day, he makes sure to check on me and with his humor, turns my day around. I am lucky to teach with a great teacher and all around great human.

Canyon Creek Middle School Leanna Vaughan Katherine I appreciate all Mrs. Vaughan does for her students. She spends so much of her time outside of the school day planning lessons to meet each students style of learning. She will meet with me every week to come up with lessons for our BRIDGES class to make lessons fun and engaging while helping individuals that need additional help. Even students that do not have you say they heard from other students that you are a good band teacher. You even take the students on very cool field trips. I want to say that Mrs. Meza always has a smile and a hello. She has a great sense of humor and is fun to be around, especially early morning meetings. She is always calm and that says a lot being in a middle school. 🙂 Thank you for all you do.

Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School Kim Daniels Aaron Hansen In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to highlight the incredible commitment to the WSD community that Kim Daniels has shown for nearly 40 years. Kim is a hero who makes a profound difference in the lives of her students by knowing them deeply and holding them to high standards. She stresses the importance of responsibility and accountability while providing the warm encouragement they need to grow. The experiences she creates in her classroom prepare her students for success in the next grade and for life.

Beyond her classroom, Kim is incredibly caring, kind, and thoughtful toward everyone around her. She is deeply committed to her colleagues and constantly finds ways to support and celebrate her teammates. Her loyalty to our community and her student-first drive are truly inspiring. We are so fortunate for the lasting impact Kim continues to make.

Columbia River Gorge Elementary School Mrs. Rindt Student Chip Mrs. Rindt was always extremely supportive and kind. She consistently connected with kids and went down to their level to see them as a person and individual rather than just another child in her life. She did everything she could to help her students be the best she consistently brought snacks for testing, supported us through tests, provided a very comforting space for her students, staying at school longer than needed for students, and arriving early most mornings. She did all this despite having problems with her own knee. She had a very big impact on who I wanted to be and was a role model even for a little 10 year old. She was by far one of the best teachers I have had and I will often recall times in her class that I cannot help but chuckle at. Thank you Mrs. Rindt! Gause Elementary School Dina Sawyer Kiersta & Sj Pritchard Mrs. Sawyer has been on a very long journey with  our son, from classroom clear outs, eloping from the school, multiple phone calls home, to now being his cheerleader on the sidelines while he continues to grown into a successful dude, without all her support, sometimes hard to hear words, encouragement to our son and the consistent communication. Our son would not be where he is right now. I know we tell you how much we appreciate you, but we really are thankful for all your dedication, love and support.
Gause Elementary School Kirstin Albaugh Colleen Davis I can’t imagine working in this school without Mrs. Albaugh! She works so hard, every day, to support students AND staff! Mrs. Albaugh is so knowledgeable about how to help students with such a wide range of issues. Whether it’s friendship troubles or difficult home situations, students know they have a safe place to go and person to help them work through whatever is going on in their lives. Mrs. Albaugh is collaborative with staff and is always available to talk about ideas to help students. She is so well-loved by students for a reason – she is amazing!

Leslie makes a profound difference by forming strong bonds with our families and serving as a fierce advocate for her students. Anna has a remarkable ability to draw in even the most reluctant learners, helping them connect with English and feel invested in their success as they prepare for high school. Over the past two years, it’s been exciting to see her bring that same spark to teaching U.S. History, engaging students in new and meaningful ways. He does an excellent job building strong rapport with his students, they know he genuinely cares about them and about their learning. As someone newer to evaluating science instruction, I especially appreciate the way Brett breaks down complex scientific concepts and clearly explains the objectives behind his lessons. His willingness to try new teaching strategies to help students better understand challenging content demonstrates both growth and dedication to his craft.

Every student needs a counselor like Danielle to help them navigate the turbulence of middle school. Jemtegaard Middle School Erin Darling Aaron Hansen In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to highlight the amazing work Erin is doing at JMS. As a participant in the Building Thinking Classrooms book study, Erin has shown a willingness to transform her practice. During a recent lesson study, Erin embraced vulnerability and reflection. She opened her classroom to her fellow teachers but has also extended an invitation to teachers and admin from CCMS and district office to observe Building Thinking Classroom strategies in action. Her willingness to invite feedback, make real-time adjustments and to provide feedback to her colleagues is inspiring. The level of student engagement I have seen is remarkable. Erin is not just using these strategies during the lesson study but each day. Thank you for everything you do for our students and your team.

Over the last three years, Jake has had to step into sudden long term substitute positions and has done an exceptional job. Jake has outstanding relationships with students. Jemtegaard Middle School Jesse Weber Aaron Hansen In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I have been so impressed with Jesse and his math team at JMS. As a participant in the Building Thinking Classrooms book study, Jesse has shown a willingness to change his practice. During a recent lesson study, Jesse embraced vulnerability, reflection and feedback from other peers. He opened his classroom to his fellow teachers and building admin, teachers and admin from WHS as well as the superintendent to observe Building Thinking Classroom strategies in action. His openness to  feedback, make real-time adjustments and to previously provide feedback to his colleagues is inspiring. The level of student engagement during both classes was awesome and the fine tuning he did from one lesson to the next was impactful! This commitment to the lesson study procedure, his team and to enhancing his pedagogy is outstanding.  Thank you for everything you do for our students and your team.

I always enjoy visiting their classroom because I learn something new about art every time. Jemtegaard Middle School Tracey Stinchfield Jake Ross It’s been wonderful to work with Tracey Stinchfield this year. She’s very dedicated to the community, both in her daily work with students and with the groups she runs, such as Club UNITE. Her work is making a very real and positive difference with these kids.
Washougal High School David Williams Ervin Williams goes above and beyond to serve his students in the Life Skills room, and all students. He works hard to plan and support students by meeting them where they are at with routines, schedules, and systems. Williams has been fun to teach with this year as he is so great at gearing our English work toward what students are interested in. Students are so engaged in the learning! He constantly thinks of creative and out of the box ways to elicit student thinking. Williams works to come up with a variety of activities that appeal to his students. He works hard to train his staff and it shows that they are all so knowledgeable in what each students needs within his classroom. I enjoy working with and learning from him, and I feel he has made me a better teacher!

He is truly inspiring and he has their best interest at heart.
