Thanks to generous voter support, we’ve been working to tackle some long-term facility maintenance needs this summer.  Contractors have begun working on the Washougal High School roof, and will be busy through early September replacing the 150,000 square feet of roofing with a composition shingle roof.  We’re excited to get this important work started, so students stay safe, warm and dry this coming winter!

Projects to replace corridor flooring at Gause and Hathaway will start in late June, and the heating systems and HVAC controls at WHS will be starting in the early summer.

Security system updates for schools will include additional measures to keep students safe. The district is installing newer security systems at WHS, Gause, Cape, and CCMS that match those installed already at the rest of our schools. The updated systems will include new lockdown buttons and notification systems.  These systems will provide both internal and external indicators that align with the Standard Response Protocol system used by schools around the county.

The district worked with construction and building experts to run a competitive bid to replace the Washougal High School roof. The district asked for bids for roofs that would be a mixture of composition shingles and metal, and options for an all shingle roof. The bids received reflected significant increases in costs, which made the metal roofing unaffordable.

The board has approved a contract to proceed with an all composition shingle roof.
