Washougal School District is excited to announce that beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, Washougal Learning Academy (WLA) will expand to include students in grades 9 through 12. This decision reflects our commitment to offering flexible, student-centered learning options that meet the evolving needs of our students and families.

Since the 2020-21 school year, WLA has served K–8 students with a personalized online learning experience that combines standards-aligned, high-quality curriculum, one-on-one teacher support, and access to all the resources of the Washougal School District. Now, high school students will also have the opportunity to benefit from this dynamic program.

The decision to expand WLA to high school is based on several important considerations:

  • Family Choice and Flexibility: We recognize that some students thrive in an online setting that allows for greater independence and scheduling flexibility.
  • Personalized Learning: Students will have access to Washougal-certified teachers, individualized learning plans, and consistent academic support tailored to their goals.
  • Full Student Access: High school students enrolled in WLA will continue to have access to sports, clubs, activities, and support services available to all WSD students.
  • Support for Unique Circumstances: Whether due to health, work responsibilities, or personal learning preferences, some students benefit from a flexible option beyond the traditional high school environment.

The high school program will include courses aligned to Washington State graduation requirements, as well as elective options designed to support a wide range of interests and future pathways.
