The VFW invites you to nominate an outstanding teacher that promotes civic responsibility and fosters the development of democratic values*. Nominations can be submitted by students, parents/family members of students, fellow teachers, and supervisors**. Each nomination must include a complete form (see below) and -in 350 words or less- a description of how and why you feel the teacher you are nominating is deserving of this award. You are not limited in the number of teachers you nominate, but each nomination must be submitted separately.
*See nomination form for more information. Your signed essay of 350 words or less must be included with each submitted form. Check ParentSquare or contact the school for a PDF copy. You can also contact the local VFW Post #4278 or www.vfw.org.
** Family members are not eligible to nominate teachers they are related to. Previous national winners are not eligible for nomination. Self-nomination is not allowed.
The Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award is not sponsored by WSD or any WSD schools. We distribute this information as a courtesy. All nominations should be submitted directly to VFW Post 4278 or its Auxiliary no later than October 31st. Late entries will not be accepted.
