The Washougal High School jazz band performed at the Washington School Personnel Association annual conference on March 6, 2024 in Vancouver, WA.  Band members played several songs in the conference ballroom at the Vancouver Hilton, performing for an audience of several hundred statewide school human resource professionals.

Washougal School District Assistant Superintendent Aaron Hansen, who was one of the event organizers, said that,”Watching the Washougal High School Jazz Band perform at the WSPA conference was an incredibly proud moment for me. Led by David Duarte, the WHS Jazz Band played three songs that simply sounded amazing, captivating over 200 attendees from nearly 70 school districts across Washington.”

Duarte added, “”Our jazz band embodies the essence of what is right in education—each note is a testament to hard work, dedication, and a desire for growth. When students invest in the process of learning, great things happen. They deserve all the credit”

Duarte seeks out opportunities for students to perform for a variety of audiences, and how the process of developing and refining their skill is enhanced by preparing for performances.  Band members develop confidence by sharing their talent with various groups which helps them learn to be comfortable performing on stage.
